International Builders Show
The
2011 International Builders Show
show home was featured in Residential Architect/Design magazine, the journal
associated associated with the American Insititute of Architects and took place
January 12th-15th 2011. The NAHB show home built by
Continental Homes & Interiors
was one of the star attractions of this event. Featuring the very latest of amenities this unique home is located in an older established neighborhood in downtown Orlando, north of Kaley and east of Lake Eola. Preston Studios had the great privilege of creating a unique entrance for this residence. Attendees to IBS will be bused in to this location from this giant Orange County Convention Center event.
This entrance included unusually thick bevels provided by ACTION BEVELS. These new faceted pieces in two designs create prizmatic focal points, along with the hand painted and fired elements by kiln-master Stanley Klopfenstine.
This new approach to stained glass design executed in the time honored copper-foil technique, pioneered by TIFFANY STUDIOS in a previous era, creates an illusion which hides the solder lines; "tromp l'oeil faux wrought iron." From the street the effect relates to traditional wrought iron imagery. But in this case, to give a 21st century sense of history, Preston Studios commissioned Stanley Klopfenstine to not only paint the faux wrought iron, but also some baroque-styled flourishes around the bevel clusters. All of this kiln work takes great skill, as well as time and talent to complete at such an exacting level of accomplishment.
Preston Studios has produced an 8 minute video production about this project:

It was a wonderful experience, plus our tour of the show home was great. The docents hired to explain each room in the house were real pros...!
