Lamps by Preston Studios are often placed by interior designers
in such settings as this residence in Isleworth, Windermere,
Florida. Collectors prize the originality of design in such
works.
Another collector of Preston lamps, John Melz, owns two. The
Datura or "Angel Trumpet" shown in this image has a prominent
setting in the Mr. Melz's great room.
The second lamp in the Melz collection is the Sea Turtle. As
shown here, the lamp sits on Mr. Melz's library desk.
Irises
were neglected by Tiffany Studios - a design motif repeated
by Preston Studios many times. The Large Iris is in the collection
of Dick Nunis.
In
1976 Preston Studios went into business to produce new designs
after the Tiffany manner. All lamp designs by Preston Studios
are originals, not reproductions.
Designs
on the 16 inch "globe" mold vary. Lamps of this size
on a bronze base retail at $8,750.
Preston
Studios has created many 22 inch shades - all new original designs.
Most are in private collections. More than 150 lamps in over
35 original designs have been created by Preston Studios for
collectors.
This
lamp is a large 22 inch diameter shade mounted on a bronze base.
Several specific varieties of Goldfish are portrayed along with
yellow Waterlilies - a real "pond" effect is the result.
Retails for $12,780.
Close-up of the work in the collection of Dick Nunis. Fred Rodgers,
the interior designer, commented on a trip to Preston Studios
over a year before the residence was completed that he wanted
to see this work placed in the livingroom - he felt it might
be appropriate.
Tiffany Studios neglected many flowers in the production of
their lamps. Morning Glory, such as these, were never done.
Commissioned by a collector in Puerto Rico, this 22 inch "globe"
shade has numerous varieties of rose represented. A lamp of
this size on a bronze base retails at $12,780.
Preston Studios has created a number of lamp originals including
Marlin, Koala Bear, and Sea Turtle themes among others. Original
floral patterns include Calla-lilies, Morning Glories, Orchids,
Datura, and numerous other subjects never atempted by Tiffany
& Co.
